POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sleep Center Trainee supports the delivery of diagnostic sleep services while developing the knowledge and skills required to become a Sleep Technologist. This role performs basic sleep testing procedures and assists with patient preparation, monitoring, and documentation under the direct supervision of a registered sleep technologist. The Sleep Center Trainee contributes to accurate data collection, patient safety, and adherence to sleep center protocols while progressing through structured training and competency development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform basic sleep testing procedures and patient monitoring activities under the direct supervision of a sleep technologist.

Prepare patients for sleep studies by explaining procedures, applying monitoring equipment, and ensuring comfort and safety.

Monitor patients during sleep studies, recognize routine abnormalities, and promptly report concerns to supervising staff.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation of sleep study data and patient observations in designated systems.

Clean, inspect, and restock sleep lab equipment and supplies in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards.

Participate in ongoing training, competency validation, and quality improvement activities within the sleep center.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Prefers applicants with current allied healthcare credential, examples include but are not limited to CNA, EMT, Paramedic, and Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Must be willing to obtain RPSGT credential within 6-12 months of hire into the Sleep Center Trainee position (more information can be found HERE
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) required within 30 days of hire

Educational Requirements:
  • Preference given to applicants with allied health degree

Special Skills or Training Requirements:
  • PC experience required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Sleep Center Trainee frequently stands, walks, bends, and reaches while preparing patients, applying monitoring equipment, and moving throughout the sleep lab. The role may involve assisting patients with mobility and positioning, as well as lifting or carrying equipment and supplies of moderate weight. Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate clearly are required to monitor patients, operate equipment, and respond appropriately to patient needs.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position works primarily in a sleep center or clinical diagnostic environment, including patient bedrooms and monitoring areas. The role involves exposure to patients with sleep disorders and other health conditions, as well as medical equipment, electrical monitoring devices, and cleaning agents. Adherence to infection prevention practices, safety protocols, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required, with occasional overnight or extended shifts based on testing schedules.
