The Department of State Hospitals Napa (DSH-Napa) is looking for PT Apprentices to join our PT Apprenticeship Program (PTAP) where you will learn to provide care to California's most vulnerable population. The PTAP is sponsored by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) - with members from both the union and the state.

To enter the PTAP, candidates must have eligibility for enrollment in an accredited Psychiatric Technician Training Program (PTTP) as evidenced by passage of the required entrance examinations. Candidates must also have graduated from high school within the United States or equivalency. It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide an evaluation of their foreign education as to what it represents in terms of U.S. school equivalency.

Applications will be pre-screened and must have passed the exam and meet the requirements with Napa Valley College to apply for DSH-Napa Psychiatric Technician Program.

The duration of the program is estimated to take 21 months to complete and includes mandatory participation in the C.N.A. Program. It is a pre-requisite for all PT Apprentices to be certified as nursing assistants (C.N.A.) prior to enrollment in the PT Fast Track Program. The PT Fast Track Program is a 50.5-unit course taking 12 months through Napa Valley College. This is an accredited course through the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT).

The PT Apprentice will be required to work 3,000 on the job training hours during this 21-month period. Travel to other facilities will be a requirement during clinical rotation. Travel fees will not be reimbursed by the state or Napa Valley College.
